Lucy (Lucille) Bussard Pigg Obituary May 20, 2026

Lucy (Lucille) Bussard Pigg, 80, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026.

Lucy (Lucille) Bussard Pigg, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her community, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Known for her gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and generous heart, Lucy touched countless lives with her kindness, faith, and unwavering love for family. She will be remembered as a woman who lived with grace and brought warmth wherever she went.

A Life Well Lived

Lucille “Lucy” Bussard Pigg was born on June 8, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri. She grew up in a loving rural family that instilled in her strong Christian values, a deep appreciation for hard work, and the importance of caring for others. After graduating from high school, Lucy attended Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), where she earned a degree in Elementary Education.

She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a beloved elementary school teacher in the Springfield Public Schools district. For over 32 years, Lucy inspired young students with her patience, creativity, and genuine care. Many former students still recall her colorful classroom, her encouraging words, and the way she made every child feel special. She retired in 2005 but continued volunteering as a tutor and Sunday school teacher for many years afterward.

In 1967, Lucy married the love of her life, Harold Dean Pigg. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family traditions. Lucy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, where she sang in the choir, taught Bible study classes, and participated in women’s ministry. She had a passion for gardening, quilting, baking, and canning her famous strawberry jam. Family gatherings were never complete without her homemade pies and warm hospitality.

Lucy found her greatest joy in her family. She was the proud matriarch who attended every ball game, recital, and school event, always cheering loudly for her children and grandchildren.

Surviving Family Members

Lucy is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Harold Dean Pigg of Springfield, Missouri; her children: daughter Susan (Mark) Reynolds of Branson, Missouri, and son David (Angela) Pigg of Springfield; her cherished grandchildren: Hannah, Jacob, and Abigail Reynolds, and Matthew and Emily Pigg; and many loving siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Ellen Bussard, and her sister, Betty Bussard Thompson.

A Heartfelt Tribute

Lucy (Lucille) Bussard Pigg was the heart and soul of her family. With a gentle touch and a servant’s heart, she spent her life loving others well. She created a home filled with joy, faith, and security — a place where everyone felt welcome and valued. Her quiet strength and steadfast faith served as an anchor for her loved ones through every season of life.

She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of kindness, integrity, and trusting in God. Whether quilting a blanket for a new baby, sharing stories from her teaching days, or offering a listening ear and a prayer, Lucy gave selflessly. Her warm hugs, bright smile, and loving presence will forever be missed but beautifully remembered.

Though our hearts ache with her passing, we find comfort knowing Lucy has gone home to her Heavenly Father, where she is whole, happy, and reunited with loved ones who preceded her. Her legacy of love, faith, and gentle grace will continue to live on through every generation that follows.
