Harvey Richard Steinmetz Obituary: Celebration of Life Service in Yakima, WA

Robert Frank Carr, age 70, of Oneida, New York, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at Oneida Extended Care Facility.

He was born on July 11, 1955, at Syracuse General Hospital to Donald F. Carr and Iva Maltby Carr. From the very beginning, Robert—known as “Bob”—was surrounded by close family and strong roots that shaped his lifelong love of family, craftsmanship, and sports.

Bob grew up in Baldwinsville, New York, alongside his sister Pamela Carr Foringer. The family later moved to Rochester, where his father worked on the railroad, before settling in Manlius in the late 1960s. Bob went on to graduate from Fayetteville-Manlius High School.

From an early age, Bob showed a natural talent for woodworking. What began as a hobby—creating pieces for his parents—eventually became his lifelong career. He worked for Stickley Furniture for more than 40 years, where his craftsmanship and dedication left a lasting mark.

Bob was known for his love of sports, especially auto racing in all forms. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and deeply supported Syracuse University athletics. Even in his later years, when mobility became more difficult, he never stopped following sports and could often be found watching any game on television.

He had a great sense of humor and was known for his playful personality, often joking, “I’m a real ‘Carr’ guy,” a line that reflected his easygoing nature and love of laughter.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Crystal Carr, and her partner Dan Gonyea of Canastota, along with their daughter Anastasia Rose; his son Jon Carr of Fabius and grandson Robbie Carr; and his youngest son Matthew Carr and his wife Jenna (Kosyla) of North Carolina.

He is also survived by his sister Pamela Carr Foringer and her husband Richard of Cazenovia, who shared many years of travel and concert memories with him, especially at the Great New York State Fair. Bob enjoyed traveling and particularly loved visiting Nantucket when his niece Kate lived there.

He will be fondly remembered by his nephew Justin Foringer, his niece Kate (Brad) Heppeler, and his great-nephew Hayden Heppeler.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Donald F. Carr and Iva Maltby Carr.

A private burial will be held at White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt, New York. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob’s memory to Meals on Wheels of Eastern Onondaga County, an organization that provided him with kindness and support through the years.

Robert Frank Carr will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his humor, his love of sports, and most importantly, his deep devotion to family. His work, his laughter, and his presence will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew him.
