Lakeisha M. Washington, 54, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2026.
Lakeisha M. Washington, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, compassionate heart, and strong faith, Lakeisha lived a life dedicated to helping others, uplifting her community, and cherishing her family. She will be remembered as a woman of grace, resilience, and boundless love who touched countless lives with her kindness and positive spirit.
A Life Well Lived
Lakeisha Monique Washington was born on July 12, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in a loving family in the historic West End neighborhood, where she learned the values of faith, education, and service to others. After graduating from Mays High School, Lakeisha attended Clark Atlanta University, earning a degree in Social Work.
She built a meaningful career as a licensed clinical social worker, serving for over 25 years with various nonprofit organizations and hospitals in the Atlanta area. Lakeisha specialized in supporting families dealing with grief, domestic violence, and youth development. Her clients and colleagues remembered her as a compassionate listener and fierce advocate who provided hope and practical help during difficult times. Even after her diagnosis, she continued mentoring young social workers and volunteering with local support groups.
Lakeisha was a faithful member of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in the women’s ministry, sang in the choir, and organized community outreach programs. She had a passion for mentoring young women, reading, traveling, cooking soul food, and spending time with family. Her annual family reunions and holiday celebrations were always filled with love, music, and laughter.
Surviving Family Members
Lakeisha is survived by her devoted mother, Mary Ellen Washington of Atlanta; her children: daughter Jasmine (Tyler) Washington of Decatur, Georgia, and son Malik Washington of Atlanta; her beloved grandchildren: Amari and Layla Washington; her siblings: brother Marcus (Tina) Washington and sister Tanisha (Darius) Thompson, both of Atlanta; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were like family.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Robert Washington.
Funeral Details and Arrangements
A Celebration of Life service for Lakeisha M. Washington will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, with Pastor Jamal Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home – South Dekalb.
Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta. Pallbearers will include her son, brother, nephews, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church’s Women’s Ministry Scholarship Fund in Lakeisha’s loving memory.
