Lisa Jeanette Rose Byington, 75, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Lisa Jeanette Rose Byington, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, entered into eternal rest on May 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her radiant smile, gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering faith, Lisa lived a life filled with grace, kindness, and quiet strength. She touched everyone around her with her warmth, wisdom, and selfless love.
A Life Well Lived
Lisa Jeanette Rose Byington was born on September 8, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up in a loving family that instilled in her strong Christian values, a love for learning, and a heart for service. After graduating from Union High School, Lisa attended Oral Roberts University, where she earned a degree in Education.
She dedicated over 35 years to teaching in the Tulsa Public Schools system, primarily as a beloved elementary school teacher. Generations of students remembered her as the patient, encouraging educator who made learning joyful and helped every child feel seen and valued. Even after retiring in 2012, Lisa continued volunteering as a tutor and Sunday school teacher, always finding ways to nurture young minds and hearts.
In 1973, Lisa married the love of her life, James Robert Byington. Together they built a beautiful home filled with love, laughter, and strong family traditions. She was a longtime active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught children’s Bible classes, and participated in women’s ministry. Lisa had a passion for gardening, baking, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her famous chocolate chip cookies and beautifully decorated holiday tables were always anticipated at family gatherings.
Surviving Family Members
Lisa is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, James Robert Byington of Tulsa; her children: daughter Sarah (Mark) Thompson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and son David (Jennifer) Byington of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her cherished grandchildren: Emma, Jacob, and Abigail Thompson, and Noah, Sophia, and Benjamin Byington; and many loving siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret Rose, and her sister, Patricia Rose Miller.
Funeral Details and Arrangements
A Celebration of Life service for Lisa Jeanette Rose Byington will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, with Pastor Michael Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include her son, son-in-law, and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church’s Children’s Ministry or to the American Cancer Society in Lisa’s loving memory.
