Kermit Locklear was born on February 11, 1957, in Robeson County, North Carolina. Raised in a close-knit Lumbee community, he learned the importance of family, faith, and perseverance from an early age. Those values guided him throughout his life and shaped the man so many admired and respected.
Growing up, Kermit was known for his strong work ethic and humble personality. After graduating from Pembroke Senior High School in the mid-1970s, he began working in the construction and maintenance industry, where he built a long and successful career over more than four decades.
Kermit became known as a dependable and hardworking man who took pride in everything he did. Whether helping build homes, repairing equipment, or assisting neighbors with projects, he approached every task with dedication and care.
Outside of work, Kermit deeply valued time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, attending church gatherings, gardening, and watching local sports. He especially loved spending weekends surrounded by his children and grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and meals together.

Funeral Details
Visitation services for Kermit Locklear will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Pembroke, North Carolina.
A funeral service celebrating Kermit’s life will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Berea Baptist Church, with Reverend Michael Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Locklear Family Cemetery.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend and celebrate the life and legacy of a man who meant so much to so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local community outreach programs and youth organizations in honor of Kermit’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
