Dorothy Pearl Welch, lovingly known as “Pearl” or “Dot” to family and friends, will be remembered as a woman of gentle strength, radiant faith, and boundless compassion. Her warm smile, selfless heart, and quiet wisdom brightened the lives of everyone she touched. She lived a beautiful, faith-filled life centered on family, service, and simple acts of love that created a legacy treasured by all who knew her.

Life & Career

Born on August 22, 1936, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Dorothy Pearl Welch grew up in a loving Christian home that taught her the value of hard work, kindness, and service to others. She graduated from Garfield High School and pursued her dream of becoming a nurse at Indiana University School of Nursing.

For more than 36 years, Dorothy dedicated her career to nursing, specializing in maternity and pediatric care at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was known for her calming presence during stressful times, her compassionate care for new mothers and sick children, and her ability to bring comfort and hope to families. Even after retiring in 1999, she continued volunteering at local clinics, church health events, and visiting elderly neighbors, offering encouragement and practical help wherever needed.

A devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church for over six decades, Dorothy sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and helped organize community outreach programs. She had a green thumb and took great pride in her flower garden, especially her beautiful roses. Dorothy was also known for her delicious homemade pies, quilts she lovingly stitched for new babies, and her passion for reading. She found joy in family gatherings, summer days at Lake Monroe, and quiet moments of prayer.

To her family, she was the heart of the home, a source of unconditional love, comfort, and strength. Known as “Grandma Pearl,” she made every grandchild feel special and deeply loved.
