Ray Gibson Obituary May 20, 2026 | Fort Worth, TX

Ray Gibson, 78, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Ray Gibson, a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, and respected member of the Fort Worth community, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Known for his hardworking nature, easy smile, and generous heart, Ray lived a life marked by integrity, faith, and a deep commitment to family and friends. He will be remembered as a steady, kind man who always put others first.

A Life Well Lived

Raymond “Ray” Edward Gibson was born on July 9, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas. Raised in a working-class neighborhood, he learned the values of honesty, perseverance, and responsibility from an early age. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1965 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. His military service taught him discipline and strengthened his lifelong sense of duty and patriotism.

After returning home, Ray built a successful career in the automotive industry. He worked for over 40 years with a major dealership group in Fort Worth, eventually becoming a trusted service manager known for his fairness and mechanical expertise. Colleagues and customers alike appreciated his honesty and willingness to go the extra mile to solve problems. He retired in 2012 but continued tinkering with classic cars in his garage, a passion that brought him great joy.

Ray was a longtime active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, coached youth sports, and participated in numerous mission projects. He loved fishing at local lakes, watching Texas Rangers baseball, grilling for family gatherings, and telling stories from his Army days and early career. Ray cherished simple pleasures — morning coffee on the porch, time with his grandchildren, and Sunday dinners with the whole family.

Surviving Family Members

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Ann (Thompson) Gibson of Fort Worth; his children: son Kevin (Lisa) Gibson of Arlington, Texas, and daughter Michelle (Scott) Reynolds of Dallas, Texas; his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Madison, and Ethan Gibson, and Abigail and Jackson Reynolds; and many dear siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Gibson, and his brother, James Gibson.

A Heartfelt Tribute

Ray Gibson was a man of quiet strength and unwavering love. He never sought the spotlight, yet his influence was felt deeply by everyone who knew him. As a husband, he was devoted and supportive. As a father and grandfather, he was patient, encouraging, and always ready with a hug or a piece of wise advice. He taught his family the importance of hard work, keeping your word, and caring for others without expecting anything in return.

From coaching Little League games to fixing neighbors’ cars for free, Ray lived a life of service. His laughter filled rooms, and his calm presence brought comfort in difficult times. He cherished his marriage to Barbara, his faith in God, and the simple blessings of family life. The memories of weekends at the lake, backyard barbecues, and heartfelt conversations will forever be treasured by those who loved him.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort knowing Ray has gone home to his Heavenly Father, reunited with loved ones who preceded him. His legacy of integrity, faith, and family devotion will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all whose lives he touched.
