Dorothy Lee (Wayne) Davis, 85, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Dorothy Lee (Wayne) Davis, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved community member, entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her gentle kindness, radiant smile, and steadfast faith, Dorothy lived a life filled with grace, service, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She will be remembered as a woman who loved fiercely, served humbly, and brought comfort to everyone around her.
A Life Well Lived
Dorothy Lee Wayne was born on March 12, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. Raised in a close-knit family that valued faith, hard work, and compassion, she learned early the importance of family bonds and helping others. She graduated from Parker High School and later attended Miles College, where she earned a degree in Business Administration.
Dorothy enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an administrative assistant and office manager, first with a local law firm and later with the Birmingham Public School System, where she retired in 2003 after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Colleagues and friends described her as professional, organized, and always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
In 1962, Dorothy married the love of her life, Mr. James Edward Davis. Together they built a beautiful home and raised a family grounded in Christian values, love, and respect. She was a longtime faithful member of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, where she served in the women’s ministry, sang in the choir, and participated in numerous outreach programs. Dorothy had a passion for cooking, sewing, gardening, and reading. Her Sunday dinners, homemade pound cakes, and sweet tea were legendary among family and friends.
She found her greatest joy in caring for her family — attending church services with them, supporting her children’s activities, and spoiling her grandchildren with wisdom, hugs, and stories from her life.
