Ronald Hinkelman, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and respected member of the Minneapolis community, entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Known for his strong work ethic, dry sense of humor, and generous spirit, Ronald lived a life of integrity, quiet leadership, and deep commitment to family and faith. He will be fondly remembered as a steady, dependable man who always put others first.
A Life Well Lived
Ronald James Hinkelman was born on August 5, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in a hardworking German-American family that instilled in him the values of honesty, perseverance, and responsibility. After graduating from North High School in 1967, Ronald proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. His years of service shaped his character and reinforced his lifelong sense of duty and patriotism.
Following his honorable discharge, Ronald built a successful career in the manufacturing and engineering sector. He worked for more than 42 years with several prominent Minnesota companies, advancing to the role of senior production manager. Colleagues praised his problem-solving abilities, fairness as a leader, and dedication to quality workmanship. He retired in 2014 and enjoyed staying active by mentoring young professionals and volunteering his technical expertise for local nonprofit projects.
Ronald was a longtime faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, where he served as an usher, on the church council, and helped with building maintenance projects. He loved fishing on Lake Minnetonka, restoring classic cars in his garage, watching Minnesota Twins and Vikings games, and spending time at the family cabin up north. His famous weekend barbecues and storytelling sessions were highlights for family and friends.
Surviving Family Members
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karen Marie (Schmidt) Hinkelman of Minneapolis; his children: son Brian (Nicole) Hinkelman of St. Paul, Minnesota, and daughter Lisa (Mark) Anderson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Emily, and Connor Hinkelman, and Sophie and Jacob Anderson; and many dear siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eleanor Hinkelman, and his brother, Richard Hinkelman.
Funeral Details and Arrangements
A Celebration of Life service for Ronald Hinkelman will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, with Pastor Michael Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home – Northeast Chapel.
Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Pallbearers will include his son, son-in-law, and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to the Wounded Warrior Project in Ronald’s honor.
