Charles G. Hopkins, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Charles G. Hopkins, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected businessman, left this world surrounded by his loving family. Known for his strong character, generous heart, and dry sense of humor, Charles lived a life of integrity, hard work, and deep commitment to family and community. He will be remembered as a man who stood by his word and quietly made a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
A Life Well Lived
Charles Gerald Hopkins was born on September 22, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky. Raised in a working-class neighborhood, he learned early the values of responsibility, perseverance, and respect. He graduated from Male High School in 1965 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. His military service instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and patriotism.
After returning home, Charles built a successful career in the transportation and logistics industry. He worked for more than 40 years with several prominent Louisville companies, eventually rising to the position of regional operations manager. Colleagues admired his leadership, problem-solving skills, and ability to mentor younger employees. Even after retiring in 2012, he remained active as a consultant and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with local business groups.
Charles was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and volunteered with the men’s ministry. He was an avid golfer, a passionate University of Louisville Cardinals fan, and loved spending weekends fishing on the Ohio River or working on projects in his workshop. His family especially cherished his weekend barbecues and the stories he told from his years in the Air Force and early career days.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Marie (Thompson) Hopkins of Louisville; his children: son Brian (Susan) Hopkins of Lexington, Kentucky, and daughter Jennifer (Mark) Reynolds of Cincinnati, Ohio; his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Madison, and Ethan Hopkins, and Abigail and Jackson Reynolds; and many dear siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A Heartfelt Tribute
Charles G. Hopkins was a man of quiet strength and steadfast love. He never sought attention or praise, yet his presence was deeply felt by everyone who knew him. He was the steady foundation of his family — the one who showed up, worked hard, and loved without condition. From teaching his children how to change a tire or swing a golf club to sitting patiently with his grandchildren telling stories of his youth, Charles created lasting memories rooted in care and wisdom.
He taught those around him the importance of honesty, humility, and keeping your commitments. His gentle humor could lighten even the heaviest moments, and his calm advice offered guidance through life’s challenges. Charles cherished his marriage to Linda, his faith, and the simple joys of life — a good cup of coffee on the porch, time with family, and watching his beloved Cardinals play.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort knowing Charles has gone home to his eternal reward, reunited with loved ones who preceded him. His legacy of integrity, faith, and family devotion will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all whose lives he touched.
