Richard Alan Martin, age 62, of Oakland, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He was born on September 30, 1963, in Ridgewood, and was the second of four children born to John and Elizabeth Martin.

He will be remembered as a dedicated plumber, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a man known for his strong work ethic, generosity, and commitment to family and community.

Early Life and Background

Richard grew up in Ridgewood, where he developed the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance that shaped his life.

He graduated from Eastern Christian High School and soon began working in the plumbing trade, where he built the foundation of his lifelong career.

Career and Business

Rick dedicated his life to the plumbing profession, where he earned a reputation for reliability, skill, and honesty.

In 2001, he achieved a personal milestone by establishing his own plumbing business, fulfilling a long-held dream of independence and craftsmanship.

his daughter, Kay Lynn Totten, and son-in-law Erik Totten

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Martin.

A viewing and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s honor to the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department, Scott Plaza, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
