Richard “Richy” McCane Obituary (1966–2026) | Wilton, NY

Wilton, NY – Richard “Richy” McCane, a devoted family man whose greatest joy in life was being a Papa, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 6, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Richard was born on April 10, 1966, in Glens Falls, NY.

Richy dedicated over 30 years of service to the Town of Wilton Highway Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the pride he took in his work. Even in retirement, Richy wasn’t one to slow down. He continued working with WJ Morris Excavating, a job he truly loved, where he built lasting friendships with his coworkers, Cecil, Sam, George, Alex, Bill and Dan.

Outside of work, Richy embraced life fully. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson, finding freedom on the open road, and spending time camping, where he could relax, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life with family and friends.

Above all else, Richy cherished his role as a Papa. His grandchildren and great niece and nephew, Aubrey, Henry, Josie and Graysen were the center of his world, and he took immense pride in every moment spent with them. Whether it was laughter, guidance, or quiet time together, he gave them his whole heart. The love he shared with them will live on as his greatest legacy.

Richy is survived by his loving family, wife Barbara and daughter and son in law Amanda and Tyler Sarro, niece and Nephew Rachel and Chase Martindale, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Laurie West, and longtime family friends, Steve and Martha Stewart, Frank and Shari Holden who will continue to honor his memory by carrying forward the kindness, strength, and love he showed each day.

Richard was predeceased by his in-laws John and Margaret West.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10:00 AM -11:30 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. Words of remembrance will be shared at 11:30 AM.
