Phyllis Kozlowski Obituary: Funeral Mass Details in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

Phyllis (nee Artman) Kozlowski passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by her children in the home she built many years ago with her late husband, Shad.

For those who knew her best, that home represented everything Phyllis cared about most — family, loyalty, warmth, and being together. It was the place where holidays were celebrated, grandchildren were spoiled, conversations stretched long into the evening, and life’s difficult moments were carried a little more gently because she was there.

She and Shad shared 55 years of marriage together, building a life centered around family and lasting commitment. Through the decades, they raised their two children, Julie (Butch) and Mark (Jennifer), while creating the kind of home people naturally gathered around.

To many, she was simply known as “Honey,” a nickname that fit her naturally. She carried herself with warmth and quiet strength, and she had a way of making people feel welcomed without needing attention for herself.

Nothing brought her more happiness than her family. She loved her grandchildren deeply — Conrad Schaitberger (Alicia), Kendall Kozlowski, and Jack Kozlowski — and spoke about them with enormous pride. Watching their lives grow and change became one of the great joys of her later years.

Even at 93, Phyllis remained closely connected to the people around her. Her family remembers her not only for major milestones, but for the small things that stay with people longest: conversations around the kitchen table, the comfort of her presence, her steady support during difficult times, and the feeling that she always made room for the people she loved.

Her passing leaves an emptiness that cannot easily be described, but her family finds comfort in knowing she spent her final moments where she most wanted to be — at home, surrounded by those closest to her.

Visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, before a noon funeral Mass at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Children’s Center in Detroit, the University of Detroit Mercy Family Law Center, or Christ Child House in Detroit.

Additional memories and condolences may be shared through the funeral home obituary page at Verheyden Funeral Home.
