Nancy Stuart Obituary

Nancy Marie (Nevicosi) Stuart, 69, of Peru passed away surrounded by family at home May 12, 2026 at 6:30 AM after fighting a 6+ year battle with ovarian cancer.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 16, at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. Ronald Margherio OSB officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 15, from 4-7:00 PM at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Additional visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of services.

Nancy was born in Ladd on October 10, 1956 to John & Joanne (Volpini) Nevicosi. She grew up in Ladd and attended Ladd Grade School, graduated from Hall High School in 1974, and then attended IVCC. Nancy married Tom Stuart on May 15, 1976 at St. Benedict’s Church in Ladd, and they would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Friday.

Nancy spent her early working years at Farmers & Miners Bank in Ladd.  She then stayed home for a few years to raise her children and did in-home daycare for 7 years.  She still has strong ties with some of the children that she cared for.  She then returned to the workforce at Lighted Way, Spring Valley City Bank, and eventually spent 21 years at Peru Federal Savings Bank before she retired to begin her cancer battle.

Nancy and her husband Tom always enjoyed decorating for all of the holidays throughout the year.  Nancy always enjoyed baking several kinds of Xmas cookies with Tom, her mother, her children, and then the grandchildren.  One of her favorite things was being able to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities they were involved in.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Tom Stuart of Peru; children, Stacy (Dave) McGunnigal of Peru, Nicholas (Doris) Stuart of Spring, TX, and Tommy (Gina) Stuart of La Salle; her grandchildren, Madison (Drake Doucette) McGunnigal, Stuart McGunnigal, Kylie Stuart, Aidan Stuart; step grandchildren, Jaden Corsolini and Jake Clark; and step great grandchildren, Brady Clark, Noah Clark, and Adelyn Clark; her brother John (Bette) Nevicosi of Oak Island, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Joanne Nevicosi, in-laws, Joel “Bud” and Mary Lou Stuart, and step grandson, Justin Cruz.

Memorials may be made to Hall Township Food Pantry, Cops for Cancer, or to the family for Nancy’s other favorite charities.

Pallbearers will be Stuart McGunnigal, Aidan Stuart, Jake Clark, Tony Nevicosi, Tim Martin, and Pat Martin.

The family would like to thank the excellent care she received at the Gynecologic Cancer Institute of Chicago in Oak Lawn, IL and Vitas Healthcare.  She truly enjoyed all her visitors and well wishes from family and friends during her battle.
