Nancy Ellen Cherry, age 70, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 5, 2026. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania Nancy was the loving wife of William Lee Cherry and mother to Lee, Christopher, and Matthew. Nancy was beloved by all and adored by everyone whose life she touched. The daughter of Robert and Donna Bardroff, Nancy is one of seven siblings whom she called her closest friends which include Debbie (Jerry), Susie (Dave), Joanie (Mark), Bobbie, Julie (Craig), and Carrie. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and brother Bobbie.
As a graduate of Saint Benedict’s High School she made lifelong friends she affectionately referred to as her “club girls”. As a devout Catholic, Nancy was a faithful parishioner of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church of Albion. Her strong faith was exemplified by her attendance at daily mass and service to the church. A graduate of the Penn State Behrend’s College of Nursing she spent her entire career of over 40 years at UPMC Hamot as a Registered Nurse and Health Care Educator. The impact she had on both patients and providers is evident to this day. She was an avid reader and always had a mystery novel nearby. A fan of the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Indians) she could cite their active pitching rotation and would watch or listen to every game. Her free time was spent relaxing by the water and staying updated with her large social circle. Nancy was someone you could count on, a person who made you feel at home, she was a proud grandmother (Nanna) to Jack, Grant, Ainsley, and Calla. Family came first to Nancy and she was known to brag about her many beloved nieces and nephews. She was a faithful friend and often referred to as a “second mother” to those around her.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, PA 16401. Additional calling hours will be held Wednesday at Saint Lawrence Church from 9:00am to 10:00am with a funeral mass immediately to follow. Condolences may be sent to the Mattera Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Catholic Church.
