Kirk S. Walworth Obituary (April 24, 2026) – Saint Augustine, FL

Kirk Sumner Walworth departed for glory on April 24, 2026, with his loving family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on November 28, 1940, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Clarence Bailey Walworth Jr. and Constance (Glazier) Walworth.

Kirk graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1958, prior to the completion of Rocky Hill Junior-Senior High School. He pursued his passion for engineering at UConn and went on to earn a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer at the University of Hartford. As part of his graduate work in 1961, he developed an early computer for his thesis, reflecting his lifelong dedication to innovation and technology.

Kirk managed an engineering division at Hamilton Standard, now known as RTX, where he played a key role in advancing technologies that supported manned flight projects and improved energy conservation in Pratt & Whitney jet propulsion engines. His contributions were recognized by United Technologies Corporation with its highest honor, the prestigious George Mead Award, for his work in developing an early programmable gate array computer chip.

He met his loving wife, Ruth, in 1964, and they were married on May 22, 1965. They lived in Tolland, Connecticut, for 15 years before moving to Rockville, Connecticut, in 1980. Kirk enjoyed boating, cruising, teaching Bible studies, and spending summers with his family at their cottage on Crystal Lake in Ellington, Connecticut. In 1999, they converted the cottage into their year-round home, where they lived for another 15 years. In 2014, Kirk and Ruth moved to St. Augustine, Florida, and in March 2023, they relocated to the assisted living facility, Paradise Pointe, in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Kirk and Ruth were devoted members of Union Congregational Church in Rockville, Connecticut, for 49 years before moving to Florida, where they became members of Community Bible Church in St. Augustine. They shared 59 years of marriage before Ruth’s passing in 2024.

Kirk is survived by his two brothers, Mark (Patricia) Walworth of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and Jon (Johanne) Walworth of Wallingford, Connecticut; his stepsisters, Diana (Ken) Ford, Judy (Dan) Cole, the late Susan Loferski, and Priscilla Duran; his two daughters, Brenda (David) Bolton of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Darlene (Michael) Suchecki of Palm Coast, Florida; his three grandchildren, Daniel, Aubrey, and Laura Suchecki; and several nieces and nephews.

Kirk was devoted to his family and cherished time spent with loved ones. He and Ruth hosted many memorable gatherings at their lake cottage, creating lasting traditions and treasured memories.

Kirk will be remembered for his intellect, dedication, and deep commitment to both his family and his Lord Jesus Christ. He leaves behind a legacy of innovation, service, and love that will endure in the lives of those who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Halifax Hospice of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Paradise Pointe of Ormond Beach, Florida, for their compassionate and outstanding care.
