John E. Bessette Jr., 76, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2026. A lifelong Cumberland resident, John was a devoted family man, a generous neighbor, and a pillar of his community whose warmth and commitment to others left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was the beloved husband of the late Debra J. (Sabourin) Bessette, father of Ashley Bessette (Scott Veloso) of Cumberland, Amanda Bessette (Roger Gastman) of Los Angeles, CA, and Scott B. Pelletier (Melissa Day Pelletier) of North Smithfield; proud grandfather of four grandchildren; brother of Michael Bessette (Lauren Williams) of Charlestown, Thomas Bessette (Susan) of Fairhaven, MA, and Richard Bessette (Lisa) of Cumberland; brother-in-law of Cheryl King (Paul) of Cumberland and Madelyn Crosby (Richard) of Texas. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 5 to 8 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Cumberland. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
