Eunice Gowan Obituary
Eunice Gowan, 98, of Oslo, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at North Valley Health Center in Warren, MN, surrounded by the love of her family.
Eunice Cyrene Farder was born on October 18, 1927, in Higdem Township at their family farm home, the daughter of Olaf and Clara (Lofthus) Farder. She was raised South of Oslo, where she attended country school and developed the strong work ethic and quiet resilience that would define her life. On March 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Roy Gowan at the Granville Church in rural Oslo. Together, they built a life on the family farm west of Oslo in North Dakota, where Eunice was a devoted farm wife—steadfast, hardworking, and always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. After Roy’s passing on April 23, 2003, Eunice remained on the farm, continuing to care for the home and land she loved so deeply.
Eunice was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA and quilting. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She lived it quietly but powerfully, teaching her children not through words, but through her example, one of compassion, patience, forgiveness, and unconditional love.
She found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments. Eunice loved baking and was known for her lefse, buns, flatbread, pies, and donuts. She enjoyed crocheting scarves and baby blankets, quilting, Playing her Childhood Piano all by ear, tending to her large flower gardens, mowing her yard, and watching the birds. She appreciated the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, but above all, her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, who were the center of her world.
Grateful to have shared in her life are her six children: Ray (Shelly) Gowan of Oslo, MN; Lynda (Scott) Marvin and Lori Marvin, both of Warroad, MN; Milt (Sally) Gowan of Oslo, MN; and Lisa (Howard) Haug and Leann (Paul) Grzadzielewski, both of Manvel, ND; twenty-three grandchildren: Jenny Gowan, Melissa (Shayne) Beckert, Alaina (Lee) Kopp, Patricia (Zach) Wold, Nicole (Chad) McFarland, Kristin Osowski, Matthew Osowski, Amber (Derek) Kern, Ashley (Adam) Voigt, Amie (Matt) Roberts, Lee (Leva) Marvin, Alisha (Tom) Dostal, Brittany (Bryan) McGregor, Briana (Josh) Brodeen, Michael (Allie) Gowan, Megan (Andrew) Happel, Larissa (Cody) Zeman, Landon (Madison) Swallow, Sara (Michael) Carlson, Thomas (Christina) Haug, Tyler (Larissa) Haug, Shelby (John) Streiff, and Garet (Montanna) Grzadzielewski; fifty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
