Donald Anthony Obituary (2026)- Canonsburg, PA
The larger-than-life patriarch that was Donald Anthony passed away on the afternoon of Friday, May 1, 2026. The pride and joy of East End Canonsburg haven’t been the same since “Trapper” was born 93 years ago and it never will be. His remarkable life – shared with his beloved wife, Shirley Rae Rinaldi Anthony, left a legacy of love, inspiration and unforgettable memories.
Their love-at-first-sight marriage began 72 years ago and gave the world their two surviving children, Donald Anthony (Lori) and Terri Rae Anthony; their two grandchildren, Samantha Rae Pitzarella (Matt) and Alexandra Rae Panseri (Greg); and their eight remarkably Italian great-grandchildren, Giada, Carmina, Enzo, Luciana, Maximo, Salvatore, Vitaliana, and Santina.
The only thing more hulking than Big Don is the way that he shaped the lives of his family, friends and loved ones. He was born to Clarence “C.W.” and Marguerite Williams Anthony in 1932 in Canonsburg, along with his brother, Kenny Anthony (deceased) and sister,
Gwen Anthony Zanaglio. Donald was retired from McGraw Edison. His passions lay in a good (or not so good) cigar, an afternoon on his back porch after Sunday dinner with his family, hunting, a glass of scotch, playing cards and debating wrestling and football, sports he excelled at, including playing on the offensive line for the University of Pittsburgh, where he and his team took on the world famous and historic Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Decades later he avenged the loss by dominating his fantasy football leagues for years. Don taught those around him what it meant to be a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, a father, a husband, and what he was referred to the most, a Pappy.
Per Donald’s wishes, arrangements will be private and are entrusted into the care of Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. At the family’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Canonsburg Town Park, P.O. Box 4, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
