Charles Edward Heath, Sr., age 82, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on May 4, 2026. A man of quiet strength and steady hands, Charles lived a life rooted in hard work, love for his family, and a deep pride in his craft.
Born on January 28, 1944, in Rome, Georgia, Charles was the son of John Virgil Heath and Lillie Mae Bollinger Heath. He spent his life doing what he loved, working with his hands as a carpenter and upholsterer. Those who knew him knew the care he put into everything he built and restored. His work was more than a job; it was a reflection of his character, patient, skilled, and dependable.
Charles was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Nancy Ruth Heath, and a proud father and grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed. He is survived by his sons, Charles Edward Heath, Jr. (Tracy), Jeffrey Scott Heath (Laura), and stepson Chris Barnes (Lisa); his daughter, Tammy Lisa Heath Penson (Boyd); and his brother, Donald Heath. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Zeric Penson, Kendall Penson Jones, Cody Clark, Dillan Heath, Jordan Heath, Molly Heath, and Jack Heath, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Virgil Heath and Lillie Mae Heath; his granddaughter Brandy A.N. Heath, his brothers, John Henry Heath and Thurman Heath; and his sister, Annis Gunn.
Charles will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, and the quiet way he showed up for those he loved. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he built.
Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 with the time to be announced. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Bryan Silvers officiating.
