Casey McMillen Obituary: Funeral Service Details for Mt. Holly & Belmont, NC Coach

Samuel Casey McMillen was the kind of person who made people feel seen. Whether he was in a classroom, on a baseball field, at church, or simply talking with friends and family, he carried a warmth that stayed with people long after the conversation ended. Those who knew him remember his encouragement, his faith, and the steady way he showed up for others during both joyful and difficult moments in life.

Casey passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 41. Though he held many roles throughout his life — teacher, coach, mentor, son, brother, and friend — the role he treasured most was being a husband and preparing to become a father to his unborn daughter. Family was at the center of everything he did, and the excitement he carried for the future was something people close to him could clearly see.

Born on November 20, 1984, in Ringgold, Casey was the son of Ann Brickle McMillen and Thomas William McMillen. Growing up in Ringgold, he was surrounded by a close-knit community and lifelong friendships that remained important to him throughout the years. From a young age, he stood out not only for his athletic ability, but also for his character and natural ability to encourage others.

At Ringgold High School, Casey excelled in both football and baseball. Sports became one of the many ways he connected with people, teaching him leadership, discipline, and teamwork. After graduation, he continued both his academic and athletic journey at Shorter University, where he played baseball and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Teaching and coaching became more than careers for Casey — they became an extension of who he was. Over the years, he worked in schools across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, impacting students and athletes far beyond the classroom. He was especially proud of his work as a special education teacher at Mt. Holly Middle School in Mt. Holly, North Carolina, where students knew him as someone patient, compassionate, and fully invested in their success. As assistant baseball coach at Stuart W. Cramer High School in Belmont, North Carolina, he brought the same level of encouragement and dedication to every practice and game.

People close to Casey often describe him as someone who celebrated others without needing attention for himself. He had a calming presence, an easy smile, and a genuine way of making people feel supported. His faith was deeply woven into his everyday life, not through grand gestures, but through kindness, consistency, and service to the people around him.

Casey’s greatest love was his wife, Jessica McMillen. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and hope for the future. He was also a loving father figure to his two “bonus” children, Junior and Gabby, and he spoke often about the joy he felt preparing to welcome his daughter, Annie Mae. Friends and family say his excitement about becoming a father again was impossible to miss.

He is also survived by his sister, Jessica (Jacob) McMillen Parker, and his nieces, Anna Grace and Mary Chandler Parker, along with many extended family members and close friends throughout North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Casey was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ann McMillen, whose influence and love remained an important part of his life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 6701 Pleasant Grove Road, Charlotte, North Carolina. A service of remembrance and celebration will take place at the church on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 12:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Casey’s memory to the Stuart Cramer Baseball Team by sending a check to Stuart W. Cramer High School, 101 Lakewood Road, Belmont, NC 28012, with “Stuart Cramer Baseball in memory of Casey McMillen” written in the memo line.

Samuel Casey McMillen will be remembered not only for the work he did, but for the way he made people feel. His influence continues in the students he encouraged, the players he coached, the friends he supported, and the family he loved deeply. For many, his legacy is found in the countless quiet moments where he chose kindness, faith, and compassion first.
