Carol Ann Jones Obituary (1961–2026)
Carol Jones Obituary

Our beloved Carol answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, peacefully at her home following a brief illness.  Her life began on October 6, 1961, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Shackleford.

Carol gave her life to Christ and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Carol loved her church family, and the love they showed her was evident during her illness.  Carol was a dedicated and faithful member who worked in the church, helping out wherever she was needed.  She was a dedicated member of the Usher Board and the Missionary Board.

Carol was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System.  After her school days, she developed an interest in the Cleaning business.  After working with Molly Maid for a few years, she and her business partner and friend, Shelley Brooks decided to start their own business.  They were blessed to have operated a successful cleaning business, J & B Cleaning Service, for 20 years.  Carol was loved and well-respected by all her clients.

Carol had a love for all people and a selfless heart.  She would do any and everything for all whom she knew and at times for those she didn’t know.  She would feed the homeless, especially making sure they were fed on major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Carol loved her family dearly and always went out of her way to make sure everyone was good and had what they needed, even if that meant providing it for them.  She didn’t have any children of her own, but her nieces and nephews were the children that she never gave birth to.  Aunt Carol’s words:  “You all have a special place in my heart, and I love you as if you were my very own.”  Continue to make me proud!

She loved to crochet and would crochet blankets for the elderly, some of whom she knew and some she didn’t know.  If anyone was having a baby, they received a handmade Carol blanket, often matching the color of the nursery.  She also enjoyed solving puzzles.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Shackleford; brothers, Paul Shackleford, Jr. and Curtis McCoy; and sisters, Virginia King and Hattie Massey.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, Leon Parsons her Life Partner, Best Friend, Maintenance Man forever; sisters, Paulette Alston, Valerie Smith (John), and Jean Shackleford; brothers, William “Bill” McCoy and Richard Reid (Marlene); sister-in-law, Lillian McCoy Taylor and Tiona Shackleford; godchildren, Tracy Pierce, Jr., Kazia Pierce, Sheree Brooks, Reuben Brooks, Jr., Rev. CJ Johnson, and Genesis Bailey; lifelong best Friends, Jeanette Wallace and Carol Pierce; business partners and friends Reuben and Shelley Brooks; church parents, Deacons James and Patricia Tabb; church mothers, Mrs. Edith Wallace and Mother Doris Cheek; godmother Mrs. Betty Wade; and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2025, at Bethel Restoration Center.  Interment to follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.  The family will be holding a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the funeral home.
