Betty Lou Burrows, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Betty Lou Burrows, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, entered into eternal rest on May 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her warm smile, joyful spirit, and unwavering faith, Betty Lou lived a life filled with kindness, dedication to family, and quiet acts of service that touched everyone around her. She will be remembered as a woman who brought light, love, and laughter into every room she entered.
A Life Well Lived
Betty Lou Burrows was born on August 19, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri. She grew up in a close-knit family that taught her the importance of faith, hard work, and caring for others. After graduating from Northeast High School, Betty Lou attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she earned a degree in Education.
She dedicated over 35 years to teaching kindergarten and first grade in the Kansas City Public Schools system. Generations of students remembered her as the loving teacher with a gentle voice, colorful classroom, and endless patience who made every child feel special and capable. She retired in 2004 but continued volunteering as a tutor and Sunday school teacher for many years afterward.
In 1964, Betty Lou married the love of her life, Charles Raymond Burrows. Together they built a beautiful home and raised a family grounded in love, laughter, and strong Christian values. She was a longtime active member of Country Club Christian Church, where she sang in the choir, taught children’s Bible classes, and organized many fellowship events. Betty Lou had a passion for gardening, sewing, baking, and quilting. Her famous chocolate chip cookies and handmade quilts were treasured gifts at family gatherings and baby showers.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was the proud grandmother who attended every school event, recital, and ball game with pride and enthusiasm.
Surviving Family Members
Betty Lou is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Charles Raymond Burrows of Kansas City; her children: daughter Susan (Mark) Thompson of Overland Park, Kansas, and son David (Jennifer) Burrows of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; her cherished grandchildren: Emma, Jacob, and Abigail Thompson, and Noah, Sophia, and Benjamin Burrows; and many loving siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Ellen Carter, and her sister, Patricia Carter Hayes.
Funeral Details and Arrangements
A Celebration of Life service for Betty Lou Burrows will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City, with Pastor Robert Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Park Lawn Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City. Pallbearers will include her son, son-in-law, and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Country Club Christian Church’s Children’s Ministry or to the Alzheimer’s Association in Betty Lou’s loving memory.
