Alice Scudella, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Philadelphia community, entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering faith, Alice lived a life filled with grace, kindness, and quiet strength. She touched countless lives through her love, generosity, and dedication to family and friends.

A Life Well Lived

Alice Marie Scudella was born on July 12, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up in a close-knit Italian-American family in South Philadelphia, where she learned the values of faith, hard work, and caring for others. After graduating from Bishop Neumann High School, Alice attended Temple University, earning a degree in Nursing.

She enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a registered nurse, working for over 36 years at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Alice specialized in oncology and palliative care, bringing comfort, dignity, and compassionate support to patients and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Colleagues and patients remembered her as the calm, caring nurse whose presence offered hope and peace. She retired in 2012 but continued volunteering with local senior centers and church health initiatives.

In 1967, Alice married the love of her life, Anthony Joseph Scudella. Together they built a beautiful home filled with love, laughter, and strong family traditions. She was a longtime active member of St. Monica Catholic Church, where she served in the women’s ministry, taught CCD classes, and organized many parish events. Alice had a passion for cooking traditional Italian meals, gardening, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her famous lasagna, meatballs, and homemade cannoli were legendary at family gatherings and church suppers.
