Lois E. Conaway Obituary: Funeral Services in Britt, IA and Highland, IL

Lois Elaine Weiland was born on August 2, 1939, in Garner, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Clarence and Leona (Monson) Weiland. She spent her early childhood attending the Hayfield Consolidated School before her family moved to Britt, where she proudly graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1957. Following graduation, Lois brought her sharp attention to detail to Des Moines Insurance.

On August 1, 1958, Lois’s life changed forever when she was united in marriage to Charles A. Conaway, Jr. at the First Lutheran Church in Britt. Together, they built a beautiful life in the heart of the Britt community, raising five children and successfully managing both the Britt Country Club and their family business, A-1 Plumbing, Heating & Appliance.

Lois was a pillar of the First Lutheran Church. She poured her heart into nurturing the next generation, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, and Confirmation classes, while also serving with distinction as a deacon on the church council. Her community spirit extended far beyond the church doors; she was the proud past-president of the Britt Lioness Club, an active member of the Red Hat Society, and a familiar, comforting face to many as she volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels.

Passions and Family Devotion While her community involvements were vast, family was the true North Star of Lois’s life. She was an exceptionally skilled artist whose paintings beautifully captured the world around her. She found joy in the quiet patience of gardening, the friendly competition of golf, and keeping up with the countless activities of her ever-growing family tree. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild were a constant source of unmeasurable happiness and pride.

Those Who Keep Her Memory Alive Lois’s beautiful spirit lives on through her devoted family, including her children:

  • Rebecca (Wade) Finch of Britt, IA
  • Timothy (Quinann) Conaway of Las Vegas, NV
  • Tamara (Scott) Stieb of Highland, IL
  • Michael (Ryan) Conaway of Merrimac, MA

She is also survived by her 12 cherished grandchildren: Lindsey (Josh) Monjure, Tara (Cade) Kelly, Casey (Martin) Jensen, Daniel (Lainey) Finch, Heather (Carlos) Conaway, Samantha (Luke) Howell, Timothy (Alexis) Conaway Jr., and Jacob, Zachary, Blake, Cory, and Luke Stieb; 14 adoring great-grandchildren; one precious great-great-grandchild; her siblings, Imogene Burgardt and Don Weiland, both of Britt; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, neighbors, and lifelong friends.

Lois was joyfully reunited in eternity with her beloved husband of over six decades, Charles A. Conaway (who passed in 2021); her parents, Clarence and Leona Weiland; her son, Rodney Clarence Conaway; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Rae Conaway. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Bud Weiland, Darlene Dunbar, Dean Weiland, Larry Weiland, and Diane McKinney; as well as her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernice Weiland, John Burgardt, Darlene Weiland, Roger McKinney, and Elaine Weiland.

Service and Visitation Information A formal celebration of Lois’s life and faith will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, Iowa, with Reverend Anna Wolf officiating. Following the service, Lois will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th at the Cataldo Funeral Home (178 First Ave. S.W., Britt). Visitation will continue at the church on Friday morning, one hour prior to the start of the funeral services.

In honoring Lois’s deep, lifelong devotion to her church community, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to the First Lutheran Church of Britt. Digital condolences, memories, and photos may be shared on her official memorial page.
