Faavela Iafeta Obituary May 14, 2026 | Salt Lake City, UT

Faavela Iafeta, 72, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Faavela Iafeta, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Samoan and Latter-day Saint communities, entered into eternal rest on May 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Known for his warm smile, generous spirit, strong faith, and dedication to family, Faavela lived a life of service, hard work, and deep love for his loved ones and his cultural heritage. He will be remembered as a man who embodied alofa (love), respect, and unwavering commitment to those around him.

A Life Well Lived

Faavela Iafeta was born on June 22, 1953, in Apia, Samoa. He grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in him the importance of faith, family unity, and hard work. In his early twenties, he moved to the United States, first settling in California before making Salt Lake City his permanent home. Faavela proudly became a U.S. citizen and embraced his new life while always keeping his Samoan roots strong.

He built a successful career in construction and facilities management, working for over 35 years with several companies in the Salt Lake Valley. Colleagues and friends remembered him as a dependable, hardworking leader who mentored many young men and took great pride in quality craftsmanship. Even after retiring, he continued helping family and community members with home projects and repairs.

Faavela was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings, including as a bishopric counselor, high councilor, and temple worker. He loved participating in Samoan ward activities, singing in the choir, and sharing the gospel with others. He took great joy in traditional Samoan culture — singing, dancing, cooking, and passing down language and customs to his children and grandchildren. His famous umu (earth oven) feasts and Sunday to’onai (meals) brought family and friends together in love and celebration.

Surviving Family Members

Faavela is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sina (Tupua) Iafeta of Salt Lake City; his children: son Faaopo (Leilani) Iafeta of Provo, Utah, daughter Mele (Tevita) Tuifua of Salt Lake City, son Pita (Ana) Iafeta of West Valley City, and daughter Litia (Sione) Ma’afala of Herriman, Utah; his cherished grandchildren: 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren whom he adored; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended aiga (family) in both the United States and Samoa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings in Samoa.

A Heartfelt Tribute

Faavela Iafeta was the heart and strength of his family. With strong hands and an even stronger heart, he provided, protected, and loved his family with everything he had. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of faith in Jesus Christ, respect for elders, love for their Samoan heritage, and the value of hard work and education.

His laughter filled rooms, his hugs offered comfort, and his counsel offered wisdom. Whether leading family prayer, cooking for large gatherings, singing Samoan hymns with a powerful voice, or simply sitting quietly with his wife Sina, Faavela showed what it means to live with alofa and faith. He was a man of few complaints and many blessings, always grateful for the life God gave him.

Though our hearts ache with his passing, we find peace knowing Faavela has returned to his Heavenly Father, reunited with loved ones, and free from earthly struggles. His legacy of faith, family, and cultural pride will live on through every generation that follows.
