The Obituary of Nathaniel S. Jones
Nathaniel “Nathan” S. Jones, age 28, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Salem, Ohio. A devoted husband, adoring father, and master technician, Nathan’s sudden departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Born on August 12, 1997, in Youngstown, Ohio, Nathan was the beloved son of Benjamin Jones and Carrie Knag. Growing up with an innate curiosity for how things worked, he spent his youth working with his hands, a passion that eventually shaped his professional life. Nathan grew up in the local community and graduated from South Range High School with the Class of 2015, where he formed friendships that would last a lifetime.
Following high school, Nathan channeled his sharp mechanical mind into a career as a diesel mechanic for Cox Fleet. Known for his tireless work ethic and natural problem-solving abilities, he quickly earned the respect of his peers. His technical excellence was recognized on a grander stage when he finished in the top 5 of the prestigious annual Top Tech competition—a testament to his mastery, focus, and dedication to his craft.
While Nathan took great pride in his work, his true masterpiece was his family. On October 19, 2019, he married the love of his life, Alyssa Schauer. Together, their bond blossomed into a beautiful, chaotic, and deeply loving family. Nathan was a proud and fiercely protective father to his three beautiful children: Weston Grey (5), Everson Laine (2), and Walker Banks (1). His children absolutely adored him; to them, he was a real-life superhero who always made time for big hugs and shared adventures.
Nathan lived life at full throttle. He was happiest when spending quality time with his family and friends, whether he was playing a competitive game of pool, sitting around a campfire under the stars, or riding dirtbikes through the trails. He had a rare, generous spirit and an open heart; Nathan was the person you called when you were in a bind, and he could always be counted on to show up and help anyone who asked, no questions asked.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers and great-grandparents, whose legacies of hard work he carried forward.
Nathan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. His memory will be eternally cherished by his loving wife, Alyssa Jones; his daughter, Everson; and his two sons, Weston and Walker. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Benjamin Jones and Carrie Rock; his step-parents, Robert and Sheila Coontz; his parents-in-law, Jamie and Jenniffer Schauer; his brother-in-law, Travis Schauer; his grandmothers, Marsha Knag and Maria Schauer; his grandfathers, Frank Schauer and David Todd; as well as a large, tight-knit extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a vast circle of close friends who were truly his chosen family.
