Nancy Sue Norfleet Obituary May 15, 2026 | Clarksville, TN

Nancy Sue Norfleet, 82, of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Nancy Sue Norfleet was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Clarksville community. Known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith, she touched countless lives with her kindness and quiet strength. Her family mourns the loss of a woman who lived her life with grace, love, and dedication to those around her.

A Life Well Lived

Nancy Sue Norfleet was born on June 12, 1943, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of hard work, compassion, and community service. After graduating from high school, she moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, where she would spend the majority of her life building a beautiful home and legacy.

She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Norfleet, in 1965. Together, they raised a family rooted in love and faith. Nancy worked for many years as a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. She retired after more than 35 years of service, having inspired generations of young students with her patience, creativity, and genuine care. Former students and colleagues often remembered her as the teacher who made learning fun and made every child feel seen and valued.

Beyond her career in education, Nancy was deeply involved in her church and community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville, where she served in the women’s ministry, taught Sunday school, and organized countless fellowship events. Her famous homemade apple pies and sweet tea were staples at church potlucks and family gatherings alike.

Nancy Sue Norfleet found joy in simple pleasures — gardening, reading, spending time with family, and watching her grandchildren play. She had a special love for flowers, especially her prized rose garden, which bloomed beautifully each spring as a testament to her nurturing nature.

Nancy is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” Norfleet of Clarksville; her children: daughter Jennifer (Mark) Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee, and son David (Lisa) Norfleet of Clarksville; beloved grandchildren: Emma Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Sarah Norfleet, and Michael Norfleet; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will carry forward her legacy of love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Ellen Carter, and her sister, Patricia Ann Carter.
