Life & Career
Born on June 14, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Sheryl Diane Baird grew up in the beautiful Snake River Valley. She was raised with strong family values, a deep Christian faith, and a love for the Idaho outdoors. Sheryl graduated from Idaho Falls High School and later attended Ricks College (now Brigham Young University-Idaho), where she studied education and developed her lifelong passion for nurturing young minds.
Sheryl dedicated over 30 years to teaching as a beloved elementary school teacher in the Bonneville School District. She taught first and second grade with incredible patience, creativity, and love. Generations of students remember her colorful classroom, her encouraging words, and the way she made every child feel special and capable. Even after retiring in 2012, Sheryl remained active in education through substitute teaching, tutoring, and volunteering at local schools and libraries.
A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sheryl served faithfully in many capacities, including as a Relief Society president, Primary teacher, and ward organist. She found great joy in serving others — whether organizing meals for new mothers, visiting the elderly, or participating in community service projects. Sheryl loved gardening, canning fresh produce, sewing, reading, and spending time with family at Yellowstone National Park and Island Park. Her homemade cinnamon rolls and holiday cookies were legendary among family and friends.
Family Members
Sheryl D. Baird is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Richard “Rick” Allen Baird, who was her high school sweetheart and constant companion. Their marriage was a beautiful example of partnership, faith, and enduring love.

To her grandchildren, she was “Grandma Sheryl,” a source of unconditional love, laughter, wisdom, and the best hugs in the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Margaret Davis, and her younger sister, Linda Davis Thompson.
