Linda Diane Plummer was born on October 14, 1950, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Robert and Helen Plummer. Raised in a close-knit family rooted in faith and strong values, Linda learned from an early age the importance of kindness, honesty, and helping others.
As a child, Linda loved reading, music, church activities, and spending time with family during holidays and community gatherings. Her caring personality and warm smile made her beloved by friends and relatives alike.
Linda graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1968 before attending Western Kentucky University, where she pursued studies in education and communication. She later built a rewarding career working in public education and administrative services for more than three decades.
Coworkers, students, and parents admired Linda for her patience, professionalism, and sincere compassion. Whether mentoring students, assisting colleagues, or volunteering for school events, Linda approached every responsibility with dedication and kindness.
Outside of her career, Linda’s greatest joy came from her family. She loved hosting Sunday dinners, preparing homemade meals, decorating for holidays, and creating traditions that brought loved ones together year after year.
Linda also enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, and spending peaceful afternoons reading on her front porch. She appreciated life’s simple moments and believed strongly in making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

In 1972, Linda married the love of her life, Thomas Whitfield. Together they shared fifty-four years of marriage built on faith, loyalty, partnership, and unconditional love. Their home became a place filled with laughter, warmth, and cherished family memories.

Linda D. (Plummer) Whitfield is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Whitfield; her loving children, Rebecca Lawson and husband Michael Lawson, Daniel Whitfield and wife Amanda Whitfield, and Jennifer Brooks and husband Eric Brooks.
She was also a proud grandmother to Olivia, Ethan, Claire, Benjamin, Hannah, and Jacob, all of whom brought tremendous joy and purpose into her life. Linda treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, whether attending school events, baking together, or sharing family stories and traditions.
She is additionally survived by her sister, Patricia Greene, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, church friends, former coworkers, and lifelong companions who will forever cherish her memory.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Plummer.
To her family, Linda was the heart of the home—a source of unconditional love, wisdom, encouragement, and strength whose presence brought comfort during every season of life.
Funeral Details
A celebration of life service honoring Linda D. Whitfield will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to local literacy programs, church outreach ministries, or community food assistance organizations in Linda’s memory, reflecting her lifelong dedication to education and helping others.
