J. Potter Obituary May 9, 2026

James Troy Potter, 56, of Macedonia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, May 9, 2026. Born on February 17, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James Larry Potter and Judith Miller Potter.

Troy was an electrician with Boeing and a man of Christian faith. He was a 1988 graduate of Middleton High School and attended Winthrop college. Troy found joy in life’s simple pleasures and favorite pastimes, including hiking at Catawba Falls, golfing, attending Carolina Gamecock football games, and taking walks on Folly Beach. He also enjoyed taking short trips with his children and treasured every moment spent with his family. Troy had a deep love for rock and roll music and will be remembered fondly for being the best air guitar player ever.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Tamra Lea Estep Potter of Macedonia; his two daughters, Rowan Potter of Oklahoma and Reagan Potter of Charleston; his stepson, Ryan Villanueva of Macedonia; his brother, Tim Potter and wife Tammi of Yemassee; his cousin, Sharon Coyle of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandson, Grey Villanueva; and his faithful service dog and companion, Kangaroo “Roo.”

Arrangements are incomplete at this time according to Dial-Murray Funeral Home of Moncks Corner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation, 1717 K St. NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20006.

Troy will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family and all who had the blessing of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, and love for those closest to him will remain in their hearts always, and his memory will continue to bring comfort, strength, and treasured remembrance in the days ahead.
