Barbara Goodwin Jones Obituary (1933–2026) | Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston – Barbara Goodwin Jones, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered peacefully into eternal rest April 11, 2026 in Birmingham, Alabama, where she had lived the last six years of life with her daughter and son-in-law. She was an only child born to parents, Harry Pearson Goodwin and Anne Walsh Goodwin, July 1, 1933, in Charleston, South Carolina.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Richard Huntley Jones (Dick) and her cousins, Jane Martin and Thomas Whalen.

Barbara graduated from Saint Francis Xavier School of Nursing in 1954. As a student nurse, she trained at the Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC. After graduation, Barbara worked at Saint Francis Xavier Hospital and later decided to stay home to raise her two children.

She is survived by her son Richard M. Jones (Denice) and her daughter Karen J. Robbins (Dr. Douglas E. Robbins), grandchildren, Frank Figuerora (Chrissy), Kristen F. Voss (Brett), Emily J. Hampton (Jonathan), and Reed P. Jones. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren, Skye, Katie, Aiden, Mia, Kinglsey, and Jones. Barbara also leaves behind a dear lifelong friend Cathy Cook (Gene).

Barbara was a delightful southern lady who grew up in Charleston and enjoyed everything it had to offer from scenic marshes, crabbing, shagging at the Folly Beach Pier, it’s beautiful gardens and architecture, lastly the “Cop-uh” River as she would say in her old Charleston dialect.

Family and friends will always remember her good nature, love of storytelling and fun-loving personality. A private interment service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Saturday May 9, 2026, 3pm to 5 pm.

We invite you to share a memory and sign our guest book.
