George Lentz Obituary

George J. Lentz, born on November 19, 1943 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 1, 2026. He was 82 years old.
For over 62 years, George shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Barbara. Together they built a life centered on family. Whether vacationing together, cooking meals to share with loved ones, or enjoying a round of golf, their time together was filled with laughter and light.
George always said that his greatest accomplishment was raising two wonderful daughters: Krista (James) Shaul and Amy (Mark) Semnisky. He took immense pride in their pursuit of their passion—teaching. Over the past three decades, George delighted in watching his grandchildren—Kayleigh Shaul, Abigael (Zach Van Duyn) Semnisky, and Branden Semnisky—grow into successful and happy young adults. Recently, he experienced the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Collin Van Duyn.
George lived a life filled with love and joy. After serving in the Army, where he had the unique opportunity to play baseball around the world, George pursued his education at Robert Morris College, studying business. His love for sports remained a constant throughout his life. Baseball and golf were among his favorite pastimes; he was an avid supporter of Pittsburgh’s sports teams. George also found joy in writing.
George was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Lentz and Mary Ruth (Roby) Lentz, brothers David Lentz and Daniel Lentz, sister Donna Lentz, and son-in-law, James Shaul.
Friends and family will be received at a memorial gathering and service on Wednesday, May 6 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 200 North Market Street, Ligonier, PA 15658 beginning at 4:00pm.
