Joanne Snyder, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted community member, entered into eternal rest on May 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her bright smile, compassionate heart, and quiet strength, Joanne lived a life filled with grace, faith, and selfless love for her family and friends. She will be remembered as a woman who brought warmth, wisdom, and kindness to everyone she met.
A Life Well Lived
Joanne Elizabeth Snyder was born on September 28, 1944, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She grew up in a close-knit family that taught her the importance of faith, hard work, and caring for others. After graduating from Harrisburg High School, she attended Messiah University, where she earned a degree in Education.
Joanne dedicated more than 35 years to teaching in the Central Dauphin School District, where she inspired generations of elementary students with her patience, creativity, and genuine care. Former students often recalled her colorful classroom, encouraging words, and the way she made every child feel special and capable. She retired in 2006 but remained active in education through volunteer tutoring and church programs.
In 1967, Joanne married her high school sweetheart, David Michael Snyder. Together they built a beautiful life and home grounded in love, laughter, and strong Christian values. She was a longtime faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and participated in women’s ministry and community outreach. Joanne had a passion for gardening, baking, reading, and knitting. Her homemade pies, cookies, and hand-knitted baby blankets were cherished gifts at family gatherings and baby showers.
Above all, Joanne found her greatest joy in her family. She was the proud grandmother who attended every recital, ball game, and school event, always cheering with love and pride.
