Charlie Shirey was born on August 2, 1954, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Samuel and Irene Shirey. Raised in a close-knit family, Charlie developed a strong sense of responsibility and a deep appreciation for community from an early age.
He graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1972 before beginning a career that reflected his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. Charlie spent more than forty years working in the construction and building services industry, where he earned the respect of coworkers, clients, and friends alike.
Known for his practical skills and leadership, Charlie became someone people could always count on. He approached every project with care and precision and took pride in doing honest work that benefited others. Many colleagues remember him not only as a hardworking professional but also as a mentor who willingly shared his knowledge and experience.
Outside of his career, Charlie was deeply devoted to his family and community. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, attending local sporting events, and spending quiet evenings surrounded by loved ones. He was also a proud grandfather to Tyler, Emma, Jackson, and Lily, all of whom brought tremendous joy and happiness into his life. Charlie treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, whether attending school events, sharing stories, or teaching them valuable life lessons.
He is additionally survived by his sister, Carol Jenkins, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Irene Shirey, and his brother, Thomas Shirey.

Funeral Details
A celebration of life service honoring Charlie Shirey will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. before the service.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to local youth mentorship programs or community outreach charities in Charlie’s memory, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
