Dr. David Kenneth Deets was born on March 11, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to William and Eleanor Deets. From a young age, David demonstrated a passion for learning and a sincere desire to help others. Those early qualities would later guide him toward a career in medicine and a lifetime of service.
David graduated with honors from Cedar Rapids High School in 1970 before attending the University of Iowa, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences. He later completed medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree with distinction.
Following his residency training in internal medicine, Dr. Deets began a medical career that would span more than four decades. He practiced primarily in Madison, Wisconsin, where he became widely respected for his intelligence, humility, and patient-centered care.

He was also a proud grandfather to Ethan, Claire, Olivia, Nathan, and Samuel, each of whom brought tremendous joy and meaning to his life. David cherished family gatherings, holidays, and the opportunity to share stories, wisdom, and encouragement with his grandchildren.
He is additionally survived by his sister, Margaret Deets Harmon, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and professional colleagues who will forever remember his kindness and generosity.
David was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eleanor Deets.

Funeral Details
A celebration of life service honoring Dr. David K. Deets, MD will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Madison, Wisconsin. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.
A private burial ceremony will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
In honor of Dr. Deets’ lifelong commitment to healthcare and service, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to local medical outreach programs, healthcare scholarships, or charitable clinics serving families in need.
