Bill Posey Obituary: Former Congressman and Dedicated Public Servant (1947–2026)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Former U.S. Congressman Bill Posey, who died peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised on Florida’s Space Coast, Bill dedicated nearly five decades of his life to public service. His career began in the 1970s on the Rockledge City Council and later took him to the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. In 2008, he was elected to the United States Congress, where he proudly represented Brevard County and Florida’s Space Coast for 16 years.
Bill was widely respected for his integrity, humility, and steadfast commitment to his constituents. He was a passionate advocate for NASA, America’s space program, and the aerospace industry that is so vital to the Space Coast’s economy. He also championed government accountability, fiscal responsibility, veterans’ issues, and policies that supported working families and strong communities.
Beyond politics, those who knew him personally described Bill as a kind, grounded, and deeply loyal man who loved his family above all else. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather who never forgot his roots in Brevard County.
He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Katie, and their two daughters, Cathi and Pamela, along with extended family and many friends.
Bill Posey’s legacy will live on through the communities he served, the values he stood for, and the countless lives he touched during his long and honorable career.
