Richard Nicholas Granata, Jr., 59, of Windsor, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Norwalk, CT on December 18, 1966, son of the late Richard N. Granata, Sr., and Elaine K. Granata, he was raised in Norwalk and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1984. After high school, Richard continued his education at the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music where he studied acoustical engineering and Liturgical Organ. He owned and operated April Showers Restaurant with his wife Sue for six years in Simsbury and built a loyal following of customers throughout the Farmington Valley. Inspired by his father and his grandfather, Richard started his own general contracting business, Connecticut Project Management, LLC. Most of all, Richard will be remembered as a family man who enjoyed relaxing at home with his wife, sons, and in recent years his grandson. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Richard was a parishioner of St. Damien of Molokai Parish – St. Joseph Church where he played the organ and sang frequently. He leaves his wife of 35 years, Susan E. (Gehle) Granata of Windsor; two sons, Nicholas V. Granata and his wife Mikayla of Granby, and Jonathan R. Granata and his fiancé, Sara O’Connell of Avon; his grandson, Garrett M. Granata of Granby and Baby Granata who he was looking forward to meeting in two months; and a sister, Jennifer E. Granata of Pensacola, FL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Dennis S. Granata; and his father and mother-in-law, Richard F. Gehle and Mary E. Gehle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday, May 14, 11 a.m., at St. Damien of Molokai Parish-St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor.
