Arne Oberg Obituary | April 29, 2026
Arne R. Oberg, aged 95, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in the care of his loving family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and great-grandfather.
Arne was born in Hartford, but as an infant, he relocated with his family to Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, where he attended Har-Brack High School and Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). Upon his graduation, he and his wife, Joan, relocated to Connecticut for his job, where he remained until his passing. Joan predeceased him just 7 months ago after 73 years of marriage.
Arne began his employment with Pratt and Whitney and remained with the company as it evolved until his retirement, after 40 years. He started as a test engineer and rose to become a Director. A highlight of his career was his role as engineering manager for International Aero Engines, an international consortium of aerospace companies, working out of their engineering base in Derby, England, for more than 3 years during the initial development of the V2500 engine. Despite great responsibility and pressure, Arne loved his job and never recalled a bad day there.
While Arne visited the Connecticut shore as a child, he and Joan visited Cape Cod early in their marriage. When they became able to afford a vacation, they vacationed there during the shutdown each year, until they were able to build a home there, where together they spent every summer during his retirement of more than 30 years. It was a place they loved and had left for their children and grandchildren.
Mostly, he was a loving father and mentor to his children and grandchildren. A quiet leader, his authority, love, and guidance were felt more than heard by those he loved, and that will remain an inspiration for them.
